Apiary

Project details

Apiary was the first project that used any form of software, with the introduction to Photoshop. The project was to create an interactive Kit-O-Parts intervention that was located on either the East or West side of Bracken Library. Students were only allowed to use three forms of materials to create the design, with no more and no less.

This intervention is located on the East side to provide covering and seating for students who use this path. During times of rain or bad weather, the Panelite covering adds shielding while also being transparent enough to allow for light to pass through.

There is seating created from redwood lumber to be a comfortable exterior study spot. The seats backing is held in place through tension with the Panelite coverings being held with metal rods.

Results

The result design was an interactive space that amplified the use of sunlight on campus. Through the use of sustainable materials, this intervention would benefit the students throughout their daily routine in all-weather situations.
