Desert Root is an environmental design school embedded within the terrain of Phoenix, Arizona. The project explores how architecture can emerge from the desert landscape rather than exist as an isolated object, using sloped earth forms, shaded courtyards, and partially submerged spaces to reduce visual impact and respond to the climate.
Organized around a central civic space, the campus combines academic, residential, and communal programs through a network of curved circulation paths that follow the natural contours of the site. Native vegetation, passive shading strategies, and a continuous walkable roof strengthen the relationship between architecture and the surrounding Sonoran Desert.
