Lighting Design / Fall 2024
Palette & Place is a vibrant, transformative Ghost Kitchen market with a bar and cafe in Columbus, Ohio, inspired by the bold patterns and colors of Yinka Ilori. Designed to adapt, it welcomes local food vendors into the space that don’t occupy a brick-and-mortar space, creating a dynamic street-to-cafe experience that evolves daily. The urban interior, featuring bright geometric motifs, serves as a living canvas that celebrates community, art, food, and social connection in a warm, welcoming atmosphere. More than just a cafe, Palette & Place is a hub for local flavor, blending the energy of the streets indoors and offering a fluid, open space where new tastes, faces, and experiences come together, keeping the vibe fresh, unexpected, and deeply connected to the Columbus community.
The lighting design for Palette & Place aims to create a warm, inviting atmosphere with an urban edge, featuring stained glass panel lighting that diffuses a soft glow. Targeting 20-30 lumens per square foot, a 2300-square-foot cafe will require about 20,000 to 30,000 lumens, maintaining a cozy warmth of 2700K to 3700K, adjustable to 2000K for a cooler vibe. Additional lighting elements, like table lamps will enhance intimacy and functionality. Dimmable LEDs allow for adjustments throughout the day, ensuring a welcoming environment that complements the spaces bold aesthetic.
