This previously awkwardly laid-out half bath was reimagined as a playful yet functional kids’ bathroom in a 1970s Southwest Austin home. The renovation focused on improving flow and creating a fully functional shower within a compact 60-square-foot footprint.
Plumbing was rerouted to improve circulation, allowing the toilet to be relocated from its original position blocking the entry and the vanity to be shifted to open up floor space. An underutilized closet was converted into a shower, finished with a vibrant combination of blue penny tile flooring and handmade Lotería tile accents.
The design reflects the client’s eclectic art collection and personal style, balancing personality with practicality. Crisp white walls enhance the sense of space, while a high-contrast hexagon floor grounds the room. Matte black fixtures contrast with colorful tilework and a weathered oak vanity, while terracotta wall planters with native succulents add a distinctly Austin finish.
