Project details

This project consisted of designing a research facility focused on researching natural disasters. for this design, the research facility focuses on seismic research on Kodiak Island, Alaska.

The design of this facility was designed after the anatomy of oysters who live in this climate. When looking at oysters we find that their shells are made in a way that resists currents and wind, as well as creating clusters of many oysters to give more protection in such harsh climates.

Using biomimicry, the facility was designed in a way similar to an oyster cluster to resists the harsh climate on Kodiak Island. The facility also sits on a base isolation system to help with seismic activity.
