About the project

Owing to the rich traditional and cultural influence that this city has on the rest of the world, Delhi, in our country, has always been famous for its food delicacies and the experience that comes along with it. From the homeland grounding North Indian food in our veins to the benchmark it has been setting in the past few decades, one of the brands making its name all the way to the top of the hospitality industry is Gulati’s - A long-standing venture, serving people’s tummies and hearts for as long as it has been there, with its legacy and a side of fun and finesse. The saga of their expedition started back in 1959 from a small dhaba ornamented with basic wooden chairs and desks, which has since transformed into a beautifully decorated "Fine Dining Establishment" acclaimed for its delicious North Indian, Mughlai, Hyderabadi and Tandoori dishes.

The New Gulati

As you approach the restaurant, the first thing you come face-to-face with is the enticing facade of the building. Inspired by the latticework embodied by historic structures, especially from the era of the Mughals, it is gestated in a custom-constructed jaali pattern which has been sheathed on the rear wall in conjunction with an FRP casing to secure the jaali. This is where modern technology and material meet the style of the past, casting a shadow on what is to unfold as we enter the place. Moreover, an illuminated Gulati sign has been supplied to guarantee the perceptibility and opulence of the eatery, along with a cove light. The built environment inside is further classified into three major areas depending upon the functionality and user experience- two separate dining spaces and the buffet area.

As you step into the eatery, the right wall is especially eminent- the so-called "Hall of Fame". It displays a collection of Gulati's accolades and achievements registered from 1950 till the present times that we live in. The vertical surface is introverted into two components top to bottom. Up to 4 feet of the area is partitioned into equivalent areas with wooden trims and is clad with black terrazzo tiles. The rest of the wall exceeding 4 feet comprises a conniving three-centered arch with elevated woodwork. Mounted in the archway lies a backdrop of Sabyasachi wallpaper occupied with graphs of Gulati's trophies and stipulations, glorifying the relationships the brand has built with the community over the past.

The Layout

Welcoming with affability and amiability into the space through a glass and metal entrance door to flood in natural sunlight is a carefully designed entrance foyer serving as a minuscule pod to what lies ahead. A wicker wall with ornate carvings exudes magnificence while blurring the line between the foyer and the restaurant. The opposite wall features a decorative backdrop ornamented with black and white images outlining Gulati's history, as well as a mesmerizing illuminated sign. To balance this installation, the opposite wall flaunts a perfect opportunity for picture-perfect social media-approved photographs. To make an undeniable statement, this wall is framed with a wooden finish, grabbing every single person’s attention. To finally top the atmosphere, a vintage chandelier is suspended from the ceiling, intricately arranged around a weathered mirror. All of these components come together to provide an inviting feel and cascade a sense of belongingness within.

The buffet counter was carved out of Ebony Marquina Italian marble with Emerald Handcrafted ceramics clad on the partition, which displays a sizeable back-lit lettering of Gulati manufactured in Bronze. The lighting has been designed specifically to correspond to the style of the whole room and artfully improve the presentation of the food.
